The Best Way To Handle Mockery As A Muslimah
Have you ever walked away from a conversation,
replaying every word in your head?
Maybe it was just a passing comment about your modesty.
A laugh when you didn’t join the gossip.
A strange look because you chose your deen over fitting in.
You smiled. Stayed quiet.
Not because you didn’t have a response—
but because you chose peace over proving a point.
Still… it stung.
And later, when you were alone, that moment played on repeat.
And you wondered:
“Did I do the right thing by staying quiet?”
If you’ve ever felt that ache—
that subtle, quiet pain of trying to live your Islam with grace,
while the world returns it with side-eyes or snide jokes—
this reflection is for you.
Because many of us are silently facing mockery.
Not from enemies… but from everyday moments.
Remember, You’re not alone in this struggle—and you’re not the first.
Even the Prophet ﷺ—our beloved, our guide, the most dignified of all humans—was mocked.
They said he was mad. (Astagfirullah!)
Delusional.
That his message made no sense.
And how did Allah respond?
“By the favor of your Lord, you are not mad… and indeed, you are of great moral character.”
(Surah Al-Qalam, 68:2–4)
SubhanAllah.
Allah didn’t ask him to defend himself.
He reminded him who he was—with gentleness, not fire.
Silence can be sabr in action.
There’s strength in silence—not when it comes from fear, but from faith.
Because Allah knows when your heart aches but your tongue chooses grace.
He sees when you could clap back—but you hold back.
And He knows it takes more strength to have adab ( good character ) than to snap.
🌿 So, What Can You Do Instead of Clapping Back?
- 🕊️ Remember Allah Sees: Your silence isn’t weak. It’s sabr.
- 🧕🏽 Protect Your Adab: Not every battle deserves a comeback.
- 📖 Reflect on Surah Al-Qalam: Allah didn’t ask the Prophet ﷺ to defend himself. He reminded him of his worth.
- 🤲🏽 Make Du’a: For strength, for dignity, for the mockers too.
Because sometimes, your quiet is louder than words.
So don’t think your silence means you’ve lost.
It might just mean you’ve won—with your character, not your words.
Just like the Prophet ﷺ, who was praised for His.
“Staying quiet while it hurts… is still sabr. And sabr never goes unseen.”
🕊️ Heart Reminder
Choosing silence doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you wise.
Sabr in silence is seen by the One who knows all.
And He is never unaware of your restraint.
